Read the recent reviews over the photos, and prize a good local host above a marginally keener price — the checklist that lands you a perfect Bude lodge lands you a perfect villa in the tropics too.
None of which is disloyal to Bude — if anything it is the town's finest lesson. This is where a lot of us first learned that a place of your own, at your own pace, with the people you love and the beach at the end of the lane, is simply the best way to take a holiday.
